Go beyond routine carpet cleaning to keep your carpets looking fresh
If we want our carpets to last for a long time, we need to take proper care of them. If you maintain and clean them properly, they are sure to last even twice as long as they normally would. But what does proper care mean? It includes regular and proper vacuuming, getting rid of different types of stains and sometimes even hiring pros. Read on if you’re interested in learning about the carpet cleaning tips and other cleaning tips and tricks.
Vacuum regularly and on the right way
Rule number one when it comes to vacuuming is to set the vacuum on the right height in order to embrace its full power. Dirt actually harms your carpets and that’s why it’s essential to vacuum them regularly. What does it mean regularly? Well, regular vacuuming means twice in the high traffic areas and once a week in those low trafficking areas. When you vacuum the dirt, you keep your carpet harm-free. Remember to replace or clean the filter on your bagless vacuum cleaner (at least once in three months) and replace or empty the bags on vacuum cleaners with bags. This is essential because if your filter is dirty or the bag is full, you’ll cut the power of your vacuum in half, thus limiting its power to pick up the dirt. Vacuum both at a slower pace and a quicker pace and make sure to go over the high trafficking areas a few times in order to be as thorough as possible. Another useful piece of advice includes placing mats in front of your door outside and inside as they prevent the outside dirt from getting on your carpet.
Sometimes regular vacuuming simply doesn’t suffice and we need to call in the pros. Different kinds of carpeting require different care and cleaning treatment. Flooring and carpet centres offer many possibilities when purchasing carpets. These include the most popular wool and nylon carpets with loop, twist, plush and frieze pile. All these different kinds of carpets require a special treatment and cleaning procedure in order to be cleaned properly without making any damages to it. Highly professional companies first check your carpet for material, damages and size and then decide on the most beneficial way to go in deep-cleaning your carpet. However, have in mind that this option can be quite pricy but you don’t have to opt for it quite often.
Maintain the aesthetics of your carpet
If you follow these tips to clean and revive the carpet pile, which include prompt getting rid of stains, your carpet is bound to live a long and healthy life. In order to have a fresh-looking carpet all the time, you need to take special care of pile (the type, length and thickness of the fibers). If you wish that your carpet looks spotless, even the smallest furniture movement can leave your carpet with indentations. In order to ‘erase’ them, you’ll need ice cubes and a stiff brush. Place the cube on the indentation and let it melt. Next, use a stiff brush to scrub the pile-up. Another way to level up your carpet is to clean it with baking soda and vinegar. It is a natural carpet cleaner that kills bacteria and removes odours. Apply baking soda to the carpet and brush it gently with a brush. Allow it to sit overnight and then vacuum it. Your final step includes spraying a bottle of 1:1 ratio of vinegar and water and brushing the pile up.
Removing different types of stains
There are so many different stains that our carpet can handle. However, we don’t get rid of all of them in the same way. Non-greasy stains are best removed by sprinkling baking soda over the stain and lightly misting the stain with hot water. You should leave it overnight and then vacuum the remains. The stain should have disappeared. On the other hand, greasy stains are best removed by blotting up the grease as much as possible, sprinkling baking soda over the stain and allowing it to sit overnight. Vacuum the area the next day and dry the spot. Repeat once more, leave the baking soda sitting for three hours and then vacuum it. The same works for removing pet odours.
By taking regular care of our carpet on a weekly basis and making it our routine, our carpet is sure to last for many years to come.
